Dr. Gatmaitan has been practicing minimally invasive surgery for the past ten years and joined The Surgery Group in 2009. His particular areas of interest include laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures for obesity, laparoscopic treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (only surgeon in the area performing LINX procedure), laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair, laparoscopic colon resection and other laparoscopic gastrointestinal procedures.
For him, bariatric surgery is unique and fascinating – a metabolic surgery with significant effects other than weight loss. He enjoys witnessing the positive transformation in each patient over time and giving them another chance at life and health and happiness.
Dr. Gatmaitan serves as the medical director of the Bariatric Program and Weight Loss Center at Baptist Hospital. Memberships in professional and scientific societies include the American College of Surgeons, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and American Medical Association (AMA).
He performs surgeries at Baptist Hospital, Gulf Breeze Hospital and at Sacred Heart Hospital.
