Specialties: Cancer surgery, minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy and thoracoscopy), endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pancreas) and breast cancer and hernia repair.


One of the founders of The Surgery Group, Dr. Rubey has served as president of the group for the last 12 years until 2016.  Dr. Rubey was born in Mobile, AL. He lives with his golden doodle, Choxsie on Pensacola Beach. He has three children, Michael, Ryan and Becca. Michael is a nurse and is Married to Aradhana who is expecting soon. They live in Pensacola. Ryan recently finished six years in the United States Marine Corps and fought in Iraq. He currently works as an insurance adjuster. Becca is married to Michael Seminer and lives in Oakland Ca.  She works with autistic children and will soon finish her masters degree in education.


Dr. Rubey has previously served in many positions at Baptist Hospital, including Cancer Liaison Physician for the American College of Surgeons, Board of Directors for Baptist Hospital, Chief of the Department of Surgery, Chief of Section of General Surgery and Chief of Trauma Service. He has extensive experience in medical-legal issues and served on the risk management committee for many years. He was the clinical coordinator at the Baptist Hospital site for a multicenter research study involving sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer.

Dr. Rubey is an avid pilot and has been flying since 1963. He enjoys boating, scuba diving and reading fiction.
